This was a photograph I took in 2009 at the U2’s 360 concert in Norman, Oklahoma. To be honest I wasn’t even a big a fan of U2 before I went to this concert. My friends literally had to drag me to it, but boy am I glad they did. To this day it is probably the best concert I’ve ever been to.

As you probably know professional cameras are strictly prohibited at these concerts, plus I had managed to break my little point and shoot camera playing paintball earlier that year, so I went to the concert with no camera at all. But luckily Hector let me borrow his little point and shoot camera at the concert…

We only had general admission tickets and we were not particularly early getting to the concert either, but thanks to Ale’ charm and a bit of luck we somehow managed to get into the inner circle of the 360 stage (in the belly of the spaceship so to say). We were not particularly close to the big stage, but really close to the outer ring though. It was probably just dumb luck but it turned out to be best spot anybody could have asked for, no matter how much they paid…

So to the picture itself… Like I mentioned before we were very lucky to be at the right place at the right time. One of the spotlights happened to hit Bono from the opposite side so all we could really see was just a shadow of his profile, but he just happened to be standing exactly sideways relative to us, and the beam of light cut through the darkness like a laser beam… Hector wanted to make a poster of this photograph as soon after I had posted this picture on Facebook, but it took nearly 3 years for this to happen… LOL … I wanted to add some of my favorite lyrics into the print, but it turned out to be much more complicated task than I had initially anticipated… Nick’s help at the very last hour was invaluable… We almost missed the submission deadline fiddling around trying to get the perfect arrangement of the texts, but we made it with something like 7 minutes on the clock…

This particular print is 5ft x 1.5ft

Invisible words...

These words might look like a bunch of random texts, but you wouldn’t believe the trouble I had to go to, not just for the arrangement (thanks a lot again Nick for helping out with it), but to make it almost be invisible. With proper lighting, it is almost impossible to see it even if you standing only a couple of feet away. I am really pleased how it turned… This is one of those instances where you really have to see it in person to appreciate all the intricacies of this piece.
