As the name implies Final Friday is held on the last Friday of every month. It is an event held in the Wichita’s Downtown area and the surrounding vicinity. This is what’s called an Art Crawl or Gallery Crawl.  Art galleries, museums, restaurants and retail shops around Wichita stay open late and welcome visitors. It goes from around 7:00pm to 10:00 (I think… don’t quote me on this) and its a completely free event. Even if you are not the artsy type… Its worth checking it out (its something different and plus you are already in downtown so you can go out afterwords). I would recommend you wear comfortable footwear though (leave your high heels at home… LOL) because you will have to walk a lot if you want to see a few things. For more info check out these websites http://www.wichitaarts.com/exhibitions/ and  http://www.downtownwichita.org/have_fun-first_final_friday.php. I don’t get to go to these as much as I used to (I am lucky if I get to go once or twice a year) but here are a few photographs from the April 2010 Final Friday…

Check out my Studio’s Facebook page for lots more pics @ http://www.tinyurl.com/truenfacebook

A bird completely made of wire…  Plus there was actually some live music at this gallery as well…

This is just a dirty window with a plant on it. But I thought it looked interesting for some odd reason…

The aim of this game to see who can go the furthest without stepping outside of the bricks… I think… LOL…

Douglas Bridge

This seems like a great little dance studio… I may actually sign up for some lessons here…

But no way I am wearing these shoes though… LOL…

I remember seeing one of the original pictures of this building or something similar at Old Mill Tasty Shop. I’ll have to look for it the next time I go to lunch there. BTW… this is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in town. It is a 50’s style Malt Shop (they sell old fashioned ice cream and malt shakes and stuff) but they also server some of the best Lasagna I have ever tried (only on Wednesdays though), plus their creamy tomato ranch is simply delicious. If any of you happened to be in downtown around lunch time (especially on Wednesdays), give me a ring, I’d be happy to join you for lunch there… I think i am going a bit off topic here :-}

These following few pictures remind me of the song from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young… Its goes something like

“Teach your children well,
… blah … blah.. blah…
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you’ll be know by.”

Plus I really like how the lighting turned out in these pics…

Another neat place downtown is Mead’s Corner. Its actually at the corner of Emporia and Douglas.  They have great paninis , gelatos and espressos… Plus they have free WiFi so its a great alternative to Starbucks or Barns & Noble if you want to study or work… Plus they have some neat artwork from time to time and host local musicians and bands as well. Check out their website www.meadscorner.com

This is a great gallery as well. It’s at the tip of my tongue, but i just can’t remember the name…

Rock Island Studios…

Dock 410… This is one of my favorite stores/galleries in town. Its got the one of most random and eclectic collection of antiques, artwork and cool random stuff . The Owner of this joint is a pretty cool guy, plus he is a photographer himself. If you are looking for something unique to decorate your house or appt, it’s definitely worth checking this place out.

Another gallery on Commerce St…

I don’t know what to say… The person who made these is either a genius, idiot or just a pervert … LOL…

hummm… Interesting positions….

This is actually a vertical piece, but i thought this was the most interesting way perspective to view it, from the floor looking up… The shadows almost look like that of people…

Probably one of the best pieces of that night… Made from what seems to be one solid piece of wood…

Not sure what this is…

Another one of my favorites… this was just shapes of hands made of electrical tape stuck on top a sheet of transparent plastic. It is such a simple thing, but a brilliant idea…

!!!

Probably one of the last people to leave that night…
